Dumb and Stupid Laws in Missouri

Janet Trieschman
Dumbness and stupidity can be found at the highest levels of our society. The law is not exempt from examples of stupidity. And it is found far and wide across our country in each and every state. All states have weird and dumb laws on the books. It is often more time consuming and costly to have them removed, so there they sit. They usually aren't acted upon but they are legal and binding and can be enacted upon if an officer of the law wanted to do so. Some are actually new and have been used recently. How strange are Missouri's weird laws? Here are the top five strangest laws in Missouri. These are listed here in descending order for your entertainment. It is hoped that you would not use them to enact a citizen's arrest! Talk about dumb and stupid!

Missouri might be a fun place, depends upon the town I guess!

Number 5
From University City:
No person may have a "yard sale" in his or her front yard.
So you can't just sell your yard? Or you can't have a sale that is held in your yard?

Number 4
From St. Louis:
It's illegal to sit on the curb of any city street and drink beer from a bucket.
No fun!

Number 3
From Mole:
Frightening a baby is in violation of the law.
As well it should be!

Number 2
From Marceline:
Minors can buy rolling paper and tobacco but not lighters.
Minors are not that stupid. Do they not have matches in Missouri?

Number 1
It is not illegal to speed.
This can open a whole new can of worms! But it could be fun.

And if you are considering Missouri might be a fun place to live, consider these:
Single men between the ages of twenty-one and fifty must pay an annual tax of one dollar.

It is illegal to have oral sex.

From Columbia:
One may not drink in a bar between 2:00 and 6:00 AM.

From Marquette:
It is illegal for more than four unrelated persons to occupy the same dwelling (The Brothel Law).

From Purdy:
Dancing is strictly prohibited.

From University City:
Four women may not rent an apartment together. (darn)
No person may own a PVC pipe.
