Dumb and Stupid Laws in Montana

Janet Trieschman
Dumbness and stupidity can be found at the highest levels of our society. The law is not exempt from examples of stupidity. And it is found far and wide across our country in each and every state. All states have weird and dumb laws on the books. It is often more time consuming and costly to have them removed, so there they sit. They usually aren't acted upon but they are legal and binding and can be enacted upon if an officer of the law wanted to do so. Some are actually new and have been used recently. How strange are Montana's weird laws? Here are the top five strangest laws in Montana. These are listed here in descending order for your entertainment. It is hoped that you would not use them to enact a citizen's arrest! Talk about dumb and stupid!

Number 5

It is illegal to have a sheep in the cab of your truck without a chaperone.

One could argue they care more for their animals then their people.

Number 4

Seven or more Indians are considered a raiding or war party and it is legal to shoot them.

Boys on the street corners and gangs beware!

Number 3

It is illegal for a man and a woman to have sex in any other position other than missionary style.

I wonder, who has the appointed job of checking?

Number 2

In Montana, it is illegal for married women to go fishing alone on Sundays, and illegal for unmarried women to fish alone at all.

Mom didn't catch any fish for dinner tonight so she is trying another tactic, see Number one below!

Number 1

Prostitution is considered a "crime against the family".

Mom's too busy to make dinner again! Or maybe she is working to buy some!

Is it just me or does Montana's dumb laws all seem to have a sexual under tone to them? Maybe it's not so subtle.

Please note: This piece is written as humor. It is meant as entertainment only. For some reason, this needs to be stated for some readers.
