Dumb and Stupid Laws in Nebraska

Janet Trieschman
Dumbness and stupidity can be found at the highest levels of our society. The law is not exempt from examples of stupidity. And it is found far and wide across our country in each and every state. All states have weird and dumb laws on the books. It is often more time consuming and costly to have them removed, so there they sit. They usually aren't acted upon but they are legal and binding and can be enacted upon if an officer of the law wanted to do so. Some are actually new and have been used recently. How strange are Nebraska's weird laws? Here are the top five strangest laws in Nebraska. These are listed here in descending order for your entertainment. It is hoped that you would not use them to enact a citizen's arrest! Talk about dumb and stupid!

Number 5

It is illegal to fly a plane while drunk.

What about driving a car? A bike? Even a lawn mower!

Number 4

It is Illegal to go whale fishing.

Someone needs a geography lesson. Nebraska is a land locked state.

Number 3

It is illegal for bar owners to sell beer unless they are simultaneously brewing a kettle of soup.

Soup? I would imagine a pot of coffee to work better.

Number 2

It is illegal for a mother to give her daughter a perm without a state license.

I don't know, it might be strange to have a law about this but I bet there are a few girls out there that are glad the law exists!

Number 1

If a child burps during church, his parent may be arrested.

This puts a whole new level of worry on what do you want to eat for breakfast!

I guess they know something I don't because in Omaha:

Sneezing or burping is illegal during a church service.
