Dumb and Stupid Laws in Ohio

Janet Trieschman
Dumbness and stupidity can be found at the highest levels of our society. The law is not exempt from examples of stupidity. And it is found far and wide across our country in each and every state. All states have weird and dumb laws on the books. It is often more time consuming and costly to have them removed, so there they sit. They usually aren't acted upon but they are legal and binding and can be enacted upon if an officer of the law wanted to do so. Some are actually new and have been used recently. How strange are Ohio's weird laws? Here are the top five strangest laws in Ohio. These are listed here in descending order for your entertainment. It is hoped that you would not use them to enact a citizen's arrest! Talk about dumb and stupid!

Number 5
Breast-feeding is not allowed in public. This one is against federal law. I'm not sure they can act upon this one. Some states have even gone further to clarify being able to breastfeed in public. Ohio isn't one of them obviously.

Number 4
It is illegal for more than five women to live in a house. Are they against women in this state? Someone better call the sorority houses at the colleges and universities and let them know they are going against the law.

Number 3
Women are prohibited from wearing patent leather shoes in public. Again with the women! I am not sure where else you'd want to wear patent leather shoes. My suggestion would be not to buy them at all since you are limited on where you can wear them. Or enjoy your shiny leather at home.

Number 2
It is illegal to fish for whales on Sunday. Ohio isn't land locked but they aren't on the ocean either. Last I checked, whales don't reach inland waterways. But just in case, don't fish for them on Sundays. And for your information, it is also illegal to get a fish drunk. So if you are fishing, for whales or fish, don't let them drink.

Number 1
No one may be arrested on Sunday or on the Fourth of July. So go hog wild on Sundays and the fourth of July. And incase you do get arrested; you can try using this as an excuse in court but don't tell them where you heard it!

I love this series you're doing! I am right now reading a book called "You Can Get Arrested For That" about these 2 Englishmen who came to America for a "crime spree" after finding such stupid laws as these, with the intent to break them! LOL. It's a great book, & I'll review it as soon as I'm done..
