Dumb and Stupid Laws in South Dakota

Janet Trieschman
Dumbness and stupidity can be found at the highest levels of our society. The law is not exempt from examples of stupidity. And it is found far and wide across our country in each and every state. All states have weird and dumb laws on the books. It is often more time consuming and costly to have them removed, so there they sit. They usually aren't acted upon but they are legal and binding and can be enacted upon if an officer of the law wanted to do so. Some are actually new and have been used recently. How strange are South Dakota's weird laws? Here are the top five strangest laws in South Dakota. These are listed here in descending order for your entertainment. It is hoped that you would not use them to enact a citizen's arrest! Talk about dumb and stupid!

Number 5

Spearfish

If three or more Indians are walking down the street together, they can be considered a war party and fired upon.

I guess this is an older version of gang control.

Number 4

If there are more than 5 Native Americans on your property you may shoot them.

Dang - Native Americans take note! South Dakota has it in for you.

Number 3

It is illegal to lie down and fall asleep in a cheese factory.

Just down right strange.

Number 2

Movies that show police officers being struck, beaten, or treated in an offensive manner are forbidden.

No Clint Eastwood here.

Number 1
No horses are allowed into Fountain Inn unless they are wearing pants. Can someone tell me where you buy pants for horses?
