Dump It: Reese Returns

A holiday weekend is here. And now, my defense of the Oscar curse. For one actress, at least - - Reese Witherspoon:
- I have always liked Reese Witherspoon and to see her transform herself and grow as an actress has been
rewarding. So much so that it ended with an Oscar a few years back. I say ended because many think with a win comes a curse, unless you are Tom Hanks. Or Meryl Streep. Let's be honest on Streep; she needs and deserves another Oscar. Too many times of late have we all noted: "But she is nominated all the time."
Enough of that.
As for the Oscar curse, I look at it this way. After a career and picking roles which people tell you to take or must take, finally that hard work pays off. You win an Oscar, which is never easy. As you developed
your style over the years, it either works or doesn't. For most, they just fade away. But not Reese. She is now in that upper echelon of actresses, where you are reminded of the Golden Age of beauties and talent. The Hollywood I love. So, here's to her for that win, then taking roles to relax and wind down, but always doing the work, with the charm, wit and grace she embodies. Now comes "Water for Elephants," a role that will surely here many say, Reese is back. back? She never left. She just took a well-deserved break.
Oh, a break that included working on many films. "Water for Elephants" should be remembered come award season. The drawback being it is being released in April. To some, the drawback is Robert Pattinson. The drawback just may the the style in which this movie was
filmed. Not to me, but others. These are the films I like as it is a drama without the over-indulgent special effects, car chases and the like. This is a movie.

Notes: See "Water" above. It will be a tough sell for "Water," but the others may not offer too much as far as alternative releases. Look for the films already out to do well again, if you could say well. The only film last week that was huge (best opening this year) was "Rio." I was going to write a reference to a "Big Mac Happy Meal" but got hungry so left it as is.
- Time to make fun of the new threat codes. Come on, you did with the other ones. Be consistent and show no sides. Oh yeah, that's right, I forget.
- We no longer care about Pulitzer Prizes, Nobels, many documentary awards, Peabody Awards and the Time 100 because they are way too political. As for Person or Thing of the Year, nah. There are
more, of course. They used to be real presitgious. Even The Mark Twain Prize
lost its credibility this year when Tina Fey won.
- By the way, we (United States) will take a $11 billion loss after we sell the GM stock.
- See how the Jerome Corsi book is treated, if at all. No, I will not mentioned the topic.
It's a hot one for sure.
- To be consistent. I did not always praise the
last administration. Like me, many of my friends noted Bush was not conservative
enough. That's why you see this struggle within the GOP today. They may want that independent or third party. In other words, the way it's supposed to work. Not tied down to the D or R.
- Having our leaders say "posting on Facebook"
seems odd. Yeah, they answer their own blogs and even write them. Sure they do. And most of them write their own books, too.
- Mood? How's my mood? Take a guess or read up on the latest poll. Now, my head hurts, along with my eyes and ears.
