Dumped

Mariella listened to the laughter surrounding her. Jack was supposed to be here, but he'd broken up with her that morning by voicemail. She wasn't about to let her money go to waste, so here she was soaring above the earth surrounded but feeling more alone than she ever had.

The pilot smiled at her as he began their descent. She smiled back wondering if he pitied her. She leaned over the edge of the gondola as it caught the fence line below. The pilot shot fire into the balloon. Slipping over the edge, she mumbled, "Dumped twice in one day."
