Dunkin Donuts Attempts to Bring Back the Waffle Sandwich.

Once Again They Are Trying to Muscle in on Breakfast from Fast Food Places

Jay Braun
Dunkin Donut's has brought back their Waffle Sandwich recently. One reason for this could be that it is one of their better tasting sandwiches and usually is on some type of special. Once again it could be that they are trying to muscle in on fast food companies' share of the business. IF they are then that is fine. I do realize many franchise owners are from "out of town", but they need to realize price is almost just as important as taste to most people. In all fairness I also don't see the quality in most of their products that other companies have. See my last article on the changes at Dunkin Donuts over the years and you will get what I mean. The donuts used to be much fresher. Certain groups that are running many of these places apparently do not believe in throwing anything away.

Their waffle sandwich is not a bad item. It really is not customizable at most places were you can get it pretty much how you want it. It typically comes with sausage, egg, and cheese, on a waffle that has some syrup baked into it. I would rate Dunkin Donut sausage near the bottom of fast food company sausages, but it is not horrible. The waffles are pretty good, the egg is decent, but will taste horrible if they get it too done in the toaster and cheese is often cheese. When they are put together you have a nice breakfast that can easily be eaten on the go and will often fill you up. I have had it a couple times when I was in an area that Dunkin donuts was the only place to get breakfast or someone else wanted to go there. Typically they sell for about $3.25. They do often have specials were you can get hash browns or a coffee with the sandwich. It will rarely be both though. It is also not the worse thing you could eat, but it is far from the best either. The Waffle Sandwich has 550 calories, 37 grams of fat, 28 grams of carbohydrates, and 21 grams of protein.

If by contrast we look at McDonald's they sell a McGriddle Sandwich that only cost $2.50 typically and have a couple sandwiches for between a dollar or two. I will say that all of them taste much better. They also are always evenly heated unlike the burnt egg spots you often get at Dunkin Donuts. The McGriddle sandwich is also 550 calories according to most sources ( some call it 560) but it only has 32 grams of fat, 48 grams of carbohydrates and 20 grams of protein. If you like bacon you can drop many calories as McDonald's bacon is not only much better tasting but also lower in fat than Dunkin Donuts. You are often patronizing a good old American owned and operated company in McDonald's. Have a great start to your morning.
