Durability

June Palmatier
Each trial of her life is etched on her face,
Lines for a husband who set a fast pace.
One cross the brow for a worrysome mother,
Those round her mouth set in by a lover.

But we notice only the laugh lines that crinkle
Brightening blue eyes that sparkle and twinkle.

After all those years searching for peace and contentment,
Fighting envy, and jealousy, pride and resentment,
Says she, "Age has taught me serenity at last,
The trouble was passion...Thank God it's all past!"

Then she smiles and she winks as she answers the door
"So I'm wrong. It's not past. There's still time for more!"

Life has some valuable lessons in store for us and as we age we begin to understand the value in them. Wonderfully written.
