Durango, CO 81122
United States of America
During the late spring and summer months Durango offers sight-seers and family groups nothing but the best outdoor activities. You can organize hiking trips, ride horse trails with friends, and of course go rafting down the Animas River. Families would also be missing out if they failed to ride the historic Narrow Gauge Railroad, a day trip to the mining town of Silverton and back. Tourists are very welcome to enjoy the city itself, most assuredly downtown Durango and Main Street. Unique shops and outlets dot the area, as do preserved buildings from Durango's earliest days, including the famous Strater Hotel.
When the seasons change into autumn and winter even more things to enjoy begin in the area. Not only is Durango gorgeous to behold under snowfall, but it is also a great hub for other Four Corner's area attractions. Ski slopes in Durango Mountain Resort have fair packages for visitors, as do nearby slopes in Wolf Creek and Pagosa Springs. After a long day of winter sports all tourists should stay for the annual Snowdown Week. It is a celebration of winter with live music, parades, and activities spread throughout the city for seven days - perfect for families, couples, and friends. And to warm you up during your stay, I recommend eating breakfast at the Durango Diner and finishing with an authentic Mexican meal at Tequilia's, our local five-star restaurant.
I could go on, but the message is quite clear. Durango, Colorado is a mid-west destination perfect for tourists year round. The city offers unique shopping, gorgeous views, local traditions, preserved histories, and a plethora of activities to keep families busy in the Durango area. Do the research yourself - I guarantee that you'll find Durango, Colorado a fine choice for a vacation getaway.
