For Pedroia, a second round draft pick back in 2004, it was a dream come true. It was a little over two years ago that the 25-year old made his Major League debut with the Red Sox. His career has been the stuff of legends since then.
A press release announcing the agreement highlighted of Pedroia's past accomplishments. In 2007, his first full season, Pedroia was named Rookie of the Year Award and helped the Red Sox win a World Series. Last year, in addition to being named the American League's MVP, he took home the Golden Glove award and the Silver Slugger award.
Pedroia is only the 8th player in American League history to win all three in the same season. He joins the ranks of Ryan Howard and Cal Ripken Jr., the only other players in baseball history to win a league MVP the season after being named Rookie of the Year.
