Dusty Trails

They knew the truth. Man wasn't responsible for this. It was getting warmer alright, but it wasn't the fossil fuels. Taxes couldn't fix this problem, nor could killing off cars. They needed the raw materials and money to fund the escape, and those were the cold hard facts.

The detractors told us, as best they could. The entire solar system was heating up. This meant only one thing. The Sun was getting bigger. Bigger means bad. Even a cowhand like me knows that. The droughts have been longer and harder here in Texas, and they're going to get worse. You can always tell the droughts gonna be bad when the vultures leave.

Like the Titanic, there won't be enough lifeboats. But the world leaders have already schettino'd to Mars. The claim is a lotto will decide, but the best and brightest will be the first to win. The elite guard will be the last to go and will be forced to kill as they leave. No one wants to be cooked alive and its gonna get nasty when they withdraw.

Me, the boys, and their families will be hitting the caverns soon. It will be a small reprieve, but they are defensible, and still have water. Life is fleeting, but we will hold on as long as life lets.
