Dutch Apple Pie

Crumb Topping

1/2 c all purpose flour
1/4 c brown sugar
1/4 c sugar
3 Tbs. softened butter

Combine flour, brown sugar and sugar together. With a pastry blender cut butter into flour mixture to resemble coarse crumbs. Cover and set aside.

Apple pie filling

8-9 medium McIntosh apples
3/4 c sugar
1/4 c all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
butter

Already prepared pie crust.

Peel and core your apples. Thinly slice the apples and put in a medium sized bowl. (I usually slice a couple of the apples, place them in the bowl, then add the sugar, flour and cinnamon. Stir together. ) Continue to slice apples and put in the bowl, stirring together. This allows the juices to start forming from the apples.

Once all of the apples are sliced and placed in the bowl, give the apple mixture a good stir. Place a 1/3 of the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust. Dot with thin slivers of butter, about four or five. Add rest of the apples. Place the crumb topping on top of the apple mixture. Sprinkle crust and crumb topping with a dusting of white sugar.

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 - 60 minutes. (Check the pie halfway through the baking process. If topping is golden brown, place aluminum foil on top to prevent burning. Let cool and enjoy with milk or vanilla ice-cream.

That was a good tip about putting the sugar, cinnamon, and flour in after the first couple of apples were sliced. I'll have to try that.
