Dutch Employ "Full Body Scan" when Boarding Flights with U.S. Blessing

New Technology Protects Privacy and Removes Concerns

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano may not be entirely convinced that the Detroit terrorist was affiliated with al-Qaeda but the Dutch are going to use full body scanners when people board flights. From now on people boarding flights in the Netherlands will be subject to full body scanning. The Dutch are going to these extremes of using a full body scanner because they believe the World narrowly escaped a major disaster when the Detroit terrorist, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was caught.

Star Chron, the site for major Associated Press stories, has picked up a story by Mike Corder and Arthur Max, Associated Press Writers titled "Dutch to use full body scanners for US flights."

They are referring to the Christmas Day Detroit event in Detroit as a "professional al-Qaeda terror attack."

These full body scanners are so effective they go beneath the clothing. Because of this the United States was not in agreement with using such formidable measures. They are now. And, they want to start immediately. That tells me that no matter what rhetoric is being used in the press our country also feels we were lucky in Detroit and al-Qaeda is alive and well.

As usual there is a voice crying out on behalf of keeping everyone in complete danger even though we have technology to protect ourselves.

Ian Dowty, a lawyer with Action on Rights of the Child, said that this technology shows genitalia and therefore violates child porn laws. However, apparently this issue is resolved by utilizing software that creates and image rather than the actual form.

I wonder if it could not be resolved however if that would really be a reason to not employ something as effective as a full body scan.

I mean would you rather your child lose some dignity and be safe or be open to the next terrorist that decides to work for al-Qaeda. To me it is no contest.

One only has to go back to Vietnam where I was for a part of my life. There are soldiers who were in the field who can tell you about little children who were sent up to soldiers or groups of soldiers with a grenade under their clothes.

Terrorists do not play by any rules as much as the U.S. keeps thinking they can get them to.

The life a child means nothing to them whether it is theirs or ours.

It is time we understood who the enemy truly is and utilized all the protection we have.

It is too bad we have to get the lesson from the Dutch.
