This artist goes by the name of Dutch Shaw. When we listen to his music, we can actually feel it. His music isn't just catchy, you can picture what he is rhyming about. Dutch Shaw's songs don't all sound the same which we find is a huge problem among underground unsigned artists.
Immediately, when Dutch Shaw's myspace page loaded up, we were amazed at the quality of the music and actually did a double take to make sure we were on an unsigned artist's page. As the first song titled "Wanna Get To Know You" played through, it started giving us goose bumps. The song is like a hip-hop ballad to a female he is digging. It's one of those songs that pull its listeners in and makes them feel like they are really in that situation, as they listen to the song. Pretty much every song on his page is like that. That's what we call good music!
Unlike most rap artists out there, signed and unsigned, Dutch Shaw really does know how to paint a picture with his words. In a song titled "Like Tic Tic" Dutch Shaw kicks it off giving listeners a visual of himself; "Purp in my lungs, Patron on my breath/ Outfit fresh, I'm lookin' flyer than a jet/ Got your rent in my pocket, your tuition on my neck..." The passion he rhymes with makes his words believeable. He doesn't spend a whole lot of time trying to keep it gangster either, which we love because there are enough "super-thugs" already trying to rap.
Speaking of "super-thug" rappers, I don't understand how or why these guys think they can call themselves artists when all their material sounds the same! This is one of the main things that set Dutch Shaw apart from his fellow unsigned artists. We never felt like we were listening to the same song. Even though some of his songs have the same general concept, he seems to find a way to convey a different message.
Dutch Shaw is an unsigned hip-hop artist that has the most potential to get signed, than all of the underground unsigned artists we've heard so far in 2009. He makes music that rap fans can feel, his music is catchy, he knows how to paint a picture with words, and he's not saying the same thing on every song. We are now fans of this underground hip-hop artist and wish him all the best in career.
