Another writer, R.J. Gardiner asked me to write one of my flower poems about Dutchman's Breeches. I wasn't familiar with the name of this plant but after seeing its picture and growing up in the East, I recognized it immediately. Hiking in the woods in early Spring, it's quite common to come across this plant.
Dicentra cuculliaria
Ultimately known as "Dutchman's Breeches";
The little white pantaloons
Clinging to a long stalk;
Happily enjoys dappled woodland sunlight;
Moderate frost is resisted;
A common plant in the East;
Native to many states;
Slopes, ravines, and streams are preferred habitat.
Bees are attracted to Dutchman's Breeches;
Rice-like seed bulbs are edible;
Early to bloom in the Spring;
Each flower will wilt if picked;
Herbaceous perennial that's toxic to wildlife;
Eating them causes a staggering gait,
Stomach upset, and glassy eyes.

Your flower acrostics are the best! I do not recognize this plant, so don't think it grows in the midwest.
