Late in my career as an Administrative Assistant I began to consider a second career as a motivational speaker. After all, I had plenty of experience. A motivational speaker is often brought in by businesses as they attempt to combat apathy or burnout. An Administrative Assistant is in a position to affect that type of communication and inspiration long before the situation gets out of control.

Motivational speakers make others believe that goals are within reach. An Administrative Assistant also brings skills that validate or substantiate the goals and success of their Administrator. A self-assured and confident Administrative Assistant can motivate their Administrator to success. Taking a secondary role in the business of motivation, are the talents and skills employed in the accomplishment of Administrative tasks and duties.

There are multiple causes of lost motivation or determination in business. Whether it comes from a lack of approval or a lack of self-respect, each has an antidote. A successful Administrative Assistant will develop a "doctor's bag" of cures or treatments when the symptoms arise. Succeeding and improving as an Administrative Assistant should be the motivating reason behind acquiring the skill of motivating others.

The team created by an Administrator and the Administrative Assistant succeeds together or fails together. The energy, skill and talent brought to the business endeavor are the engine of the working machine. The fuel for continued performance comes from individual self-esteem and morale. It precedes and predicts performance in almost everything we do.

How much self-esteem the Administrator and the Assistant have will determine the level of vitality, enthusiasm and personal magnetism. It fuels the effectiveness of their efforts. For the Administrator to perform at their best and to feel terrific about them selves, the Administrative Assistant should be in a perpetual state of self-esteem building and maintenance.

How much your Administrator respects them selves is directly affected by their goals and the achievement of them. To the extent that the Administrative Assistant is responsible for the fulfillment of those goals, they should be accomplished with exactness. Failure on the part of the Administrative Assistant will dramatically deflate the motivation of the Administrator. No amount of motivational speeches or encouragement will resurrect a poorly executed assignment. This is where the skill set and knowledge of the Administrative Assistant finally comes into play. Their attention to detail and excellence in performance will be the oil in any business unit's well-oiled machine.

It should never be forgotten that the success of the Administrative Assistant is directly connected with the success of their Administrator. Maintaining a high level of motivation will fuel that success.
