Duties and Responsibilities of an Environmental Health Specialist

Life is vital and must be guarded and protected jealously. This is where the need for an environmental health
specialist becomes of paramount importance. What they do is to ensure that they control the regulation of food,
consultation, education and more importantly a standard that governs the sanitation of foods such as milk,
solids, water, wastes that are hazardous and infectious to human health. They also make sure that institutional
environments, housing and sewage's are worked on to help preserve the life of every individual since life is a
vital entity that must be preserved.

To achieve these aims and objectives, an environmental health specialist must ensure that the manner in which
foods are served and handled are in total compliance with the laws of the state. Also, the procedures, the
equipment used in dairies and food processing must be evaluated. In addition, samples of chemicals, whether
physical or biological in nature must be examined to see if they are hazardous to human existence.
An environmental health specialist should be able to prevent hazardous substance such as disposable or
infectious waste from contaminating the environment. This extends to the construction of disposable systems that will help direct these wastes in a safer and risk free manner, causing no outbreak of diseases or pollution. This does not end here as the environmental health specialist still have the responsibility of enlightening the
public by organizing seminars that will help communities maintain a high environmental health standards.

Their specialty lies in the activities they carry out especially in the area of organizing environmental
programs. They make sure that foods are protected, the right pesticide used and sewage's are adequately
disposed. That is not to say that the issue of health maintenance is solely the responsibilities of the
environmental health specialist; there are other professionals that are equally concerned with health for
instance, the doctors. Also, every single individual shares from these responsibilities as well.

Consequently, every health specialist should be able to first and foremost have a wider acquaintance with the
causes of any health hazards. Ensure that every environment has a good plan that will help protect and avoid
the risk of any pollution or infection. They should always be disposed in the investigation and possible causes
of every disabilities, diseases and other health hazards. There should be a preventive measures that needs to be put in place with the aim of helping in the control of any outbreak of diseases. Researches, presentation of health educational programs and designing will have to be implemented to prevent any anomaly or further occurrence.
