First, forget the bulk buy warehouses. They never have bargains on DVD's. I often wonder why I bother to pay for membership since I can buy DVD's, clothing, and electronics cheaper down the street at Wally world and I do not have to pay a membership there. Then I remember that I pay the membership for the bulk buy groceries where I might save a few dollars, if I am careful.
So, DVD's, where do I get them? The first place I check is Movie Stop on Hull Street Road at Mockingbird. They sell both new and used DVD's and their used DVD's have been cleaned and checked. I have never had a problem with a used movie from there myself. Generally, if they have a used movie, you will find it much cheaper there than anywhere else. Occasionally their new movie prices beat everyone else also.
TV series seasons, however, are a different story. They tend to want more money for a used season of a TV series than you can buy it for new at Wal-Mart or Target. The new prices are just plain high. The catch is Movie Stop has a much bigger selection of both new and used TV series than anywhere else around.
Blockbuster is not just for renting movies. While their new movies are a bit pricey they usually have a nice selection of "previously viewed" movies to choose from at good prices. Since they also usually have a "two (or three) for $20" deal, you should plan on buying more than one movie if you go there. Just make sure the original price tags on the movies total more than $20 or you are losing out on the deal. I have purchased a used DVD, from Blockbuster, which was messed up but they replaced it without any fuss.
Now for Wal-Mart and Target. Yes, you can find good deal on new movies at both of these locations but you must be careful. Do not assume they have the lowest prices; they frequently do not, even on new movies. Movie Stop will, occasionally, beat Wal-Mart for a deal. Target tends to have sales for new releases on occasions. These sales may be the best deal around if you just have to have the newest release out RIGHT NOW.
Generally I have found new releases to be a bad deal no matter where you buy them. Wait about four months and look for them previously viewed, and half the price, at Movie Stop.
One last place to keep an eye out for inexpensive DVD's in Chesterfield is the public libraries. They sell DVD's for a dollar each from their "friends of the library" area. The catch is, they rarely have DVD's and, if they do get some in, they go very quickly.
In conclusion, if you live in Chesterfield, Virginia and you are looking to buy inexpensive DVD's you will need to shop around a bit. That said these places are your best bet for starting points. Good luck and good hunting (for bargains that is).
