Although the world's greatest supplier of human blood, pharmaceutical company Bromley Marks, run by Charles Bromley (Sam Neill) is opposed to a cure because he makes all of his money, wealth and power from human blood sold to his "vampire customers!"
Bromley constantly fights this battle with his employee vampire scientist because the supply of human blood is reluctantly down to a 5% world-wide crisis. He states? "Damn it! I don't want a cure, but a synthetic substitute!" Because this is what has made him so filthy rich all around the entire planet earth.
Edward Dalton's brother, also vampire, Frankie Dalton (Michael Dorman) is "ironically" a military human-hunter? Which means that instead of searching for vampires, he is brutally hunting and capturing living human beings because of their blood, (reminds you of Planet of the Apes movies).
Where human-beings are farmed, harvested and kept alive at Bromley Marks Institution in gigantic housing tanks, completely nude males and females, with very little food fed through their veins, (similar to the way cattle is raised) for one purpose only to keep vampires alive? Or should I say dead! They can never die and have no heart-beat or even breathing air.
"How this ten-year long vampire epidemic ever started in 2009 seems to be unknown?" However? The typical vampire genre problems seems to be the same (un-like the Twilight saga films) where vampires still die in direct sunlight and are easily killed by wooden stakes.
Oddly? humans carry finger triggered cross-bows and wooden arrows to kill vampires straight to the heart. This seems to be the only death for vampires as historically proved, but now the modern day vampires literally "explode" into bright flashy orange fire flames and then instantly turn to gray dust.
Lovable auto-mechanic former vampire Lionel "Elvis" Cormac (Willem Dafoe) still fights killer vampires everyday because of one day in the past he was speedily driving at 140 mph in his car and accidentally splashed into a river being exposed to direct sunlight only for a few seconds bringing him back to becoming human again.
"Elvis" stated that the water seemed to immediately "cool him off" causing this seemingly unknown cure which scientist such as Edward Dalton had been searching for so many years in the past. Even though the cure had to be constructed and refined in a laboratory where scientist Dalton used a "gigantic wine vat" to eventually figure out the process!
This seemed to be the main objective or plot in this gory mayhem 2010 sci-fi/horror film. On top of all of these problems? Since the blood supply for vampires is running low, especially for the poor, these particular vampire communities go without human blood 2 weeks or longer and gradually turn into "Bat-Like" creatures with long wings and fangs killing anyone in their "weird looking red eye sight". The vampire police kill them by exposing them to direct sunlight!
This film/movie was released in the USA on January 8, 2010 in local theaters. Written and directed by Peter and Michael Spierig, distributed by Lions Gate Entertainment.Yahoo.com users gave it a rating of B-. The film critics also gave it an unusual high rating of B-. I personally gave it a C+, simply because it was just too typical copy of the TV Syfy channel and their normal daily special effects (FX). This film is now out on DVD.
