Who doesn't like dinosaurs? This movie is the first of a trilogy of dinosaur movies. And Jurassic Park does dinosaurs very well. The special effects are excellent and the dinosaurs are very believable.
We have watched all three of the Jurassic Park movies as a family and the kids love them! There are certain scenes that the boys want to watch and re-watch over and over again. All these scenes involve the dinosaurs, of course.
This Jurassic Park movie gives us all the background information that we need to understand how all this dinosaur stuff happened. We learn about how the dinosaurs were made, the theme park/zoo that was planned and why everything didn't work out as planned. This unfortunately made the movie a little slow with not quite enough dinosaur action for the boys [7 and 5 years old].
In spite of the slowness, the boys have wanted to see the dinosaur scenes over and over. That's what makes DVD's so great, the SKIP button!
The dinosaurs were created from the DNA in a mosquito that had fed on a dinosaur about a zillion years ago and who was in an amberized tree sap fossil and then it was sequenced with frog DNA. It is believed that the dinosaurs are all female and that they can not reproduce and that the dinosaurs could not survive on their own without the intervention of humans to feed them some certain nutrient.
Well, as it happens, the dinosaurs have managed to find a way to reproduce [something about frog DNA being able to change sexes when needed] and they have found the nutrient that they need to survive from plants that are planted around the island.
Enter one really greedy bad guy, the computer programmer for the entire island's computerized system. EVERYTHING is computerized on the island [is that asking for trouble or what?]. Mr. Greedy Guy disables the entire computer security system
So now the island has no computer system for the island and the security fences for the dangerous dinosaurs, there is a terrible storm and there are people out in the dinosaur compound in computerized jeeps that no longer work.
Now here comes one hungry T-Rex who decides to have a lawyer snack....
There are not a lot of gory, gross-out scenes in this movie. There are only a few times that you see things like a little blood here and there and one arm that isn't attached to a person but overall, the movies are not gross. That's why we let the boys watch them, well, that and they love dinosaurs.
The dinosaur special effects in the first movie are not quite as good as in the later two movies but they are still very good. You can almost believe that dinosaurs have returned to walk the earth.
This movie is rated PG-13 and you can buy it for less than $10 at Amazon.com
