This third movie in the Jurassic Park trilogy is one of my personal favorites. I prefer Sam Neill as the lead character and he is very good as dinosaur expert Dr. Alan Grant. Dr. Grant doesn't want anything to do with living dinosaurs ever again, preferring the fossilized ones. Then he and his research assistant are tricked into going with Paul Kirby and his wife and three associates into going to the second island. What Dr. Grant doesn't know is that the Kirby's want him to help them find their lost 14 year old son who got lost on the island in a para gliding accident. They couldn't find anyone to help them so in an act of desperation, they hire three mercenaries and trick Dr. Grant and his associate into coming along to the island where they hope their son is still alive.
Things begin going wrong immediately. Two of the mercenaries are eaten by a dinosaur right away. Then they are stuck right in the middle of a fight between a T-Rex and a Spinosaurus dinosaur. The Spinosaurus kills the T-Rex in a really great fight scene and the people run away. The third mercenary, [who just happens to be one of the Mr. Noodle's from Elmo's World] is also killed by dinosaurs, raptors, who use him as bait to try to catch the other humans.
But Dr. Grant does find the lost son, Eric when Eric saves him from the raptors. The two are separated from the others but they all meet up eventually, they all have to run from the Spinosaurus again, they all nearly get eaten by Pterodactyls, and just when it looks like they are going to get to the beach safely, they are stopped by the group of velocioraptors that have been chasing them all over the island.
Once again, this movie is a family movie for our family. We have watched this movie in particular over and over again especially the dinosaur fight scene between the T-Rex and the Spinosaurus. My 5 year old grandson has both the dinosaur action figures from this scene and he loves for me to put this movie on and play the fight scene over and over while he has his dinosaur figures fight it out. It's very cute to see him do this!
The kids like this movie quite a lot, not only because of the dinosaurs but also because of the Mr. Noodle from Elmo's World connection. We were all very sad when Mr. Noodle died.
You can buy this movie on DVD from Amazon. If you buy it USED instead of new, you can get it as cheap as $1.00 plus shipping. It almost makes me wish that I hadn't bought mine new when it came out!!
