The Mummy Collector's Set DVD (The Mummy (1999)/ The Mummy Returns/ The Scorpion King) (2002)

If you are a fan of The Mummy movies starring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and John Hannah then this is the DVD set for you.

The set includes the two Mummy movies Mummy and Mummy Returns plus the related movie The Scorpion King starring Dwayne Johnson [The Rock].

I'm still surprised when I see The Mummy movies listed in the Horror genre because I am not a horror fan and these movies just didn't seem like horror movies. I found them to be adventure-type movies similar to the Indiana Jones movies starring Harrison Ford.

I am fascinated by ancient history [probably the reason that I was a history major!] and Ancient Egypt is a special favorite of mine. So any movie or documentary that has Egypt as a major part of the background history will be on my must see list. Now I did not do any research to see how historically accurate The Mummy movies are but I really did watch them just for the entertainment value alone. And then there was the comedy! There were a lot of funny scenes in both Mummy movies.

Brendan Fraser is very funny in the movies and makes an excellent action hero, saving the girl and triumphing over evil every time. I also enjoyed the funny John Hannah. John Hannah's character is so charming and such a con man who only thinks about himself that I really enjoyed seeing him in action. He just gets into so much trouble! And his sister in the movie, Eve [Rachel Weisz] is hilarious as an accident-prone librarian who keeps getting into her own messes. In fact, the whole mummy coming alive to destroy the entire world is all her fault.

The perfect bad guy was chosen to play the role of Imhotep
The Scorpion King is not quite as good as The Mummy movies but it does star the gorgeous Dwayne Johnson that we know as THE ROCK. He looks very good in his costume and he's awesome in a sword fight.

All three movies are rated PG-13.

For pure entertainment, this trilogy of DVD's can't be beat. Plus they would make an excellent Christmas or birthday gift.

You can buy this set at Amazon for less than $20 and if you spend $25, you can get free shipping.

Nice review! Check out my reviews of the Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King! Hmmm, perhaps I could combine them into a review of the collection.....

Anyway, have you heard they are doing the Mummy 3?
