DWTS the Results Week 1: David Hasselhoff Sent Back to the Beach While Bristol Palin's Moves Pay Off (Sept. 21, 2010-ABC)

Tension was high as the first 12 contestants of Dancing With The Stars awaited the results of the season premiere competition. Combined with the judges' scores, the audience votes determine one's safety in the elimination. There is as much tension for the professional dancer partners, as for the celebrity contestants.

During DWTS The Results for premiere week, there were musical performances by blockbuster entertainers while professional dancers danced to wonderfully choreographed routines. The opening act was Santana with the ageless hit, Oye Como Va.

The four contestant couples with the lowest scores from the judges were first to face the elimination process. Singer Michael Bolton and comedienne Margaret Cho were the first two to learn that they and their partners would be returning the following week.

After a performance from Daughtry, the band, the four couples with the highest judges' scores faced hearing the results. The next two contestants to make it to the next round were Dirty Dancing actress Jennifer Grey and former NBA player Rick Fox.

The musical highlight of the evening (in the author's opinion) was when Santana and singer India.Arie performed a gentle, yet extremely intimate cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps written by George Harrison.

The four contestant couples in the middle of the leader board from the previous night's performance were next to face the judges. Audrina Patridge and Florence Henderson were the next two celebrity contests to breathe a sigh of relief.

A duet from Santana and Chris Daughtry rounded out the musical performances of the evening while the remaining six celebrity contestants and their partners awaited their fate.

Also safe from elimination were: Singer Brandy, teen advocate Bristol Palin, actor Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, actor Kyle Massey, and NFL star Kurt Warner.

Despite Cho's comedic antics and The Situation's lack of rehearsal time to perfect his moves, former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff and his partner Kym Johnson were the first couple to be eliminated on this season's show.

Next week the couples will tackle a new dance--a quick-step or a jive.

DWTS airs on Monday night at 8 p.m. on ABC, and the results air the following night at 9 p.m.

I missed most of it! Good recap. Was surprised at this week too! I am checking in with all my friends before I leave again for 4 days! Between hospital runs south to visit my father in law and my travel plans I have been away far too much. My iPod Touch doesn't allow me to post comments but I can read...and with long hours in the hospital (thank goodness for free Wifi) reading AC articles and lovely poetry keeps me sane!!
