Dying to Be Thin

Body Image is Killing Us

Sherry Asbury

We have become such a selfish and ego crazed society that if you are not looking like a concentration camp refugee, you are considered fat. While it may never be determined what killed Anna Nicole Smith, at the very least her dieting had a hand in her death.

There is such a clamor to be thin. Have we all gone crazy? Not everyone is meant to be thin. Nature didn't cut us all with one cookie cutter. We have gone beyond nutrition, diet and exercise into mania.

There are the long-standing three body types:

Body Type One

Mesomorph

Body Type Two

Ectomorph

the same size then this is you. You can change the definition of your body but will find it difficult to increase muscle size.

Body Type 3:-

Endomorph - Are you curvy, large boned, hips wider than your shoulders with a nice store of fat then this is you. it is possible to tone and shape but will be a lot harder work.

As it happens, I am an Endomorph. I have learned to live with my body and respect its capabilities and its shortcomings. Years of dieting have taught me basic nutrition and food values. You cannot change your body type! You must learn how to be happy with the basic shape you have been given.

This is not to say dieting is bad, but some types of dieting are not good for you. The healthy food eaten in sensible amounts. Weight Watchers adapted their program around this healthy and wise method of food choice.

Picture a voluptuous woman - translation, large-breasted. Should she be stick thin? She has a lot of structure to support, and to see a large-bosom and stick legs just doesn't mix. Some short women want to be toothpicks, but they were born fleshy. Some are born muscular, some dense.

It is a shame that a nation where not everyone has enough food to eat has such an obsession with weight. If you want to lose a few pounds, go to Kentucky and help a woman carry filthy stream water to cook her food with. Go out and gather food for those who are thin through no fault of their own. They simply do not have enough food to eat. Teach people who receive food stamps how to manage healthy food.

Don't die trying to be something you were not meant to be. Pills are not the answer. Pills are NEVER the answer. A good solid diet of fresh and healthy food is the answer.

Here are two versions of the food chart that shows what foods are most and least important in a diet. They offer the perfect combination of nutrients to sustain a healthy body. The average calories needed by a body to maintain its weight is 2000 calories, with 1200 a low that is recommended as the lowest number of calories needed each day.

The truth is blunt: if you want to diet, do it slowly and sensibly. You must change not only what your eat, but how you think. Diet candy is still candy - not nutrition. Eat a bag of popcorn and have lemonade, a good diuretic. Be sure to drink eight full glasses of water a day, in addition to your other liquids.

Our culture is killing us with its images that beyond reality and good sense. Take care of yourself and get exercise. Think of the food you put in your body as "medicine", necessary things to keep bones strong and bowels functioning.

Love yourself as you are and if you need changes, don't take pills, and don't die trying.
