My Dyson DC17 arrived a few days later and I had it assembled within thirty minutes. Assembly was easy and the directions provided were clear. I used my vacuum with the broken handle to do one final clean in the living room. Then I vacuumed again with my new Dyson DC17. I filled the canister with dust and pet hair before I finished the room. I ended up filling it three times in the initial vacuuming and filled it one more time vacuuming the furniture and curtains. I have three children and I vacuum one to four times a day. To fill the canister that many times was absolutely amazing.
After I vacuumed the living room I invited my neighbor to come over to see. We both noticed that the carpet was visibly cleaner and the nap of the carpet was starting to come back. The air in the room had also lost that stale smell that we hadn't even noticed we had.
Since the Dyson DC17 has a canister so there are no bags to buy and replace. I always fought getting the bag in just right in my old vacuum and it never failed that I would run out of bags. Bags were starting to get expensive and that was another reason I wanted to try the Dyson. Just savings in bags has saved me a lot of money over the last two years. To empty the canister I hold it over the trash can and with the push of a button it's emptied.
The filter is able to be cleaned and does not need replaced. However, I am planning on buying another one since it takes a full 24 hours to dry. If you can skip a day vacuuming there's no need for a spare, but I like to keep my floors extra clean with small children.
The Dyson DC17 is also able to be used on hardwood and vinyl flooring. There is a switch to turn off the beater bar for smooth floors. I really like this feature to vacuum my kitchen floor and it does a great job on my wood floor as well.
The canister is able to be removed and disassembled for easy cleaning. The clear part is able to be cleaned with dish soap and water. Please refer the the Dyson manual for cleaning instructions.
The vacuum comes with a crevice tool, a soft brush, and a pet hair remover that are onboard. There is also a separate attachment that has a beater bar for furniture, stairs, or small spaces.
I really don't have any complaints about this vacuum other than it is a bit heavy to carry up the stairs. That's a small trade off for the power of this vacuum. I hope this Dyson lasts me many years and I know I will be replacing it with another Dyson.
