Dyspraxia: From a Personal Expereince

Oh, Did I Mention Daniel Ratcliff Has It? and Me?

Its not Dyslexia, its Dyspraxia!

Now, for years, I have known I was different, I just didn't know what it was. Everyone mistook my symptoms of clumsiness, lack of concentration and stammering to being Dyslexia. Far from it! Dyslexia causes words to be a jumble! But I could read and write and add numbers! I just couldn't stay awake, and focused too much on little things instead of the big picture!

I can now hold my head up high, not only knowing what Dyspraxia is, but also knowing that Daniel Ratcliff has it.

The Harry Potter actor claims "I was rubbish at everything at school." Lucky him for landing into filming then. Apparently, he still has trouble tying his shoelaces, and has heard to remark to the Daily Mail. "Why oh why has Velcro not taken off?"

There is no obvious cause for Dyspraxia, but in my case it could be exacerbated from my mild Asthma. It can affect any or all areas of development, including intellectual, physical and language, and can impair a person's normal process of learning. If severe, it could create difficulty for persons to walk and down stairs or run, hop, jump or kick a ball. Up to 10 per cent of people in Britain show signs of the condition, with about 2 per cent severely affected. Although its more likely to affect men than women, You tube is growing its followers of Dyspraxia suffers including a few girls.

Yet, there is still no large body to represent Dyspraxia sufferers. The only group I am aware of are in North Yorkshire. I live in Hertfordshire for Christ sake. We need a government body to help us! Come on! We are here! Do something Daniel.
