EA Partners with Dr. Pepper

Good for Us or Just Good for Them

On June 25, 2009 EA officially announced that they would be teaming up with Dr. Pepper to bring new and original content to many of their current and future games. The Senior Vice president of Global Media Sales announced, "We're proud to partner with an innovative marketing company like Dr Pepper that has such a rich heritage. EA is always looking for new ways to reach its fans, and by aligning with Dr Pepper, we're able to offer consumers premium content that enhances the gaming experience."

But is this really a good thing for the gamer? As a gamer I can still remember back to the days of Rainbow Six Vegas when every billboard in the game was an advertisement for some real world object. Because of this my concern is if EA is actually going to release cool stuff that adds to the value of their games, or if they are going to release pointlessly tiny bits of content and only make sizable content when it sports the Dr. Pepper logo.

EA is announcing that their first update sponsored by Dr. Pepper is going to be for The Sims 3 and is going to include items for a beach party and tailgating party. Hopefully it's not just a bunch of reskined textures with a Dr. Pepper logo.
