The concept behind the currently titled "The Simpsons" video game, created by EA, is how the Simpson family discovers that without their knowledge, they have became the basis of a new video game. The story evolves from there, said Scott Amos, the game's executive producer, at a press event on Wednesday in San Francisco.
The video game will have many of the Springfield characters, the only Simpson character that is missing will be Maggie.
The game is built around 16 episodes that have been shown on TV. Two Simpsons family members will tackle each episode with one player switching off between the characters or two players playing together in splitscreen mode. Storylines such as the "Tree Hugger" episode where Lisa gets to play the role of eco-terrorist as soon as she and Bart finds out that Montgomery Burns plans to cut down all the trees of Springfield, with the goal of making a single luxury toothpick out of each tree.
Also as soon as the Simpsons discover they are a part of a video game, the members give themselves super powers. Our lovable Homer will bulk up into the giant Homerball while Bart of course gets to achieve his biggest dream, being Bartman!
"Bart has always wanted to be Bartman," Amos said, "so we let him live out this fantasy."
Amos reports that the game within a game will include endless inside jokes and social critique, including parodies of many popular real-life video games, and even the video game press. "There's 8,000 lines of dialogue written just for the game" by the TV show's writers, Amos said.
The Simpsons has a movie coming out this summer, however the movie and the video game have no relationship, Scott Amos confirms.
Amos also said that the game within a game would be typical of The Simpsons in that it would include endless numbers of inside jokes and lots of social critique, including parodies of many popular real-life video games and even the video game press.
Will this new The Simpsons video game truly be any better than the numerous video games that have been released in the past? I guess it's up to us to find out.

Sign me up. It will be tough to beat Simpsons Hit and Run, which was the first video game to really capture the essence of the show. Looking forward to it.
