Eager

H. Kris Thomas
If harm lurks in the corners and
In the shadows and reflective surfaces
Of your existence
Just wait.
You will be safe.

Pain is only a temporary occurrence.
Soon enough you will recover
And the ache, the sting, the pressure
Will dissipate.
We humans have a slow memory.
You will forget the hurt--
In time.

Your prayers echo off the galaxies
Like energy in the cosmos conspiring with
Time and space;
Like sound moving crazily in a hollow drum.
Your want is heard--
The message received.
Just wait.

And you climb mountains
To show the world that you can;
That your muscles are strong
And your resolve is fierce.
Only you forget half way up that mountain--
Never forget.
You are a child of beauty;
Of intelligence and love.
You will reach the highest peak
And you will be victorious.
Just wait.

    Your poem reminded me of the phrase, "Pain is just fear exiting the body." Nice job on this piece.
