1) Eagles-Cowboys Matchup
Sunday's primetime game features two division rivals in the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. This is a crucial game for both teams. Philadelphia is currently in a fierce battle with New York for the division lead, while Dallas is looking to make one final charge for a playoff spot. Since 2005, the teams have met 10 times with Dallas enjoying a 6-4 advantage. The Cowboys currently enjoys a 3-game winning streak over the Eagles. The last time the two teams played was in the 2010 NFL Playoff, with Dallas dominating Philadelphia 34-14.
2) Michael Vick vs. Jon Kitna
The final game of Sunday's NFL schedule pits a confident Michael Vick against a resurging Jon Kitna. Vick is enjoying the best year of his professional career. For the season, the Eagles' quarterback has amassed 2243 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and a fantastic QB rating of 105. More impressively, he has posted a rating of over 100 in at least five games this year. Jon Kitna, on the other hand, took over as the Cowboys' starting quarterback halfway through the season. Although he started poorly, Kitna has had some impressive performances as of late. The Dallas' QB has accumulated 1703 passing yards, 11 TDs, and an 89.5 QB rating.
3) Andy Reid vs. Jason Garrett
=>CONTINUE ON PAGE 2
Both Philadelphia and Dallas come into this contest in good form. The Eagles have won 4 of the last five games; the Cowboys are 3-1 in their last four contests. Andy Reid's team has been particularly impressive. The team is second in the NFL in points scored and 13th in points allowed. Philadelphia's offense, anchored by MVP candidate Michael Vick, ranks 7th in passing yards and 5th in rushing. More spectacularly, the Eagles have scored at least 24 points in 9 of 13 contested games. On the defensive front, Andy Reid's crew is solid but not spectacular. The team's defense has produced enough decent plays to allow the offense to do its thing.
In contrast to Philadelphia, the Dallas Cowboys have struggled in all aspects of the game. The team is especially pitiable defensively, ranking next to last in the NFL in scoring and 28th in opponent passing yards. On the offensive end, the Cowboys is still a dangerous team placing 10th in points scored. The one bright spot for Dallas this year has been its passing game, ranking 5th overall. Since Jason Garret took over as the interim head coach on November 8, the team has improved considerably as evident in quality wins over New York and Indianapolis. Against a confident Philadelphia, however, the team will have to elevate its game even higher if it hopes to be competitive.
My prediction for the 2010 NFL Sunday Night Football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys: the Eagles win an offensive fest by the score of 40-35. Kickoff time for the game is 8:20 PM EST. The game is played at Cowboys Stadium, and will be broadcast by NBC Sports.
