Eagles Win 38-10 Over Panthers

The Professor
The first week of the regular season and the Eagles were clicking like never before against the Panthers. The Eagles couldn't be stopped as they dropped the Panthers for a 38-10 loss on Sunday. The defense seemed to play with Jim Johnson, former defensive coordinator who died this summer from cancer, in their heart. They hit Carolina's quarterback with brutal blitzes as they forced 7 turnovers during the game. The defense also recorded 4 sacks and a touchdown on Jake Delhomme's fumble.

But, it was not only the defense that passed Sunday's test with flying colors. The offense also put on an impressive show as the team racked up two passing touchdowns by Donavan McNabb and a rushing touchdown also scored by McNabb. The touchdown passes were caught by Brian Westbrook and Brian Celek. The offense impressively spread around the ball quite well. The attack was well balanced in both the passing game and the running game.

For the running game both Brian Westbrook and rookie LeSean McCoy were effective during their touches. All the worries about whether the rookie would be able to step up and whether Westbrook was running out of gas and rusty evaporated early during the game and were completely gone by the end. Desean Jackson and McNabb also ran the ball effectively during the game.

In terms of the passing game the main contributors were tight end Brain Celek and wideout Kevin Curtis. On the special field side DeSean Jackson was impressive once again as he returned a punt for 85 yards and a touchdown which put Philly up 17-7 at the time.

The only bad news to come out of the game was a injury to McNabb that he received on his rushing touchdown. It has been reported that he has received a broken rib on the play. It is doubtful that he will play next Sunday against New Orleans. If McNabb can't play next week it will mean a one and done start for Kevin Kolb as Michael Vick is suspended until Week 3. For those of you hoping or worrying that McNabb's injury will open the door for Vick, I will tell you that there is no chance. Even if McNabb doesn't play against New Orleans he will be ready by week 3 and after today, he has once again confirmed his position as Philly's QB.
