Early 2010 Video Game Releases- Part 1

These Games Are Worth Waiting For

Jennifer Amlie
There has always been plenty of quality video game releases late in the year for the holidays. Early next year, some highly anticipated video games are being released. These early 2010 video games just might outshine Christmas time releases. Before you run to the nearest gaming store with that gift card, check out these first quarter 2010 video game releases that are worth waiting for.

Early 2010 video game: Dark Void
Set for release on January 19th, Dark Void is a promising new title. Play as a cargo pilot that crashes in the Bermuda Triangle and enters into a parallel universe. The residents of this universe are humans called Survivors. Battle with the Survivors against an alien race called the Watchers to get back home. At your disposal is a hover pack, jet pack and lasers. Dark Void uses a new vertical cover system that lets plays fight in situations previously unable in most games. It will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The game is rated T for teens and will retail for about $59.99.

Early 2010 video game: Mass Effect 2
This Xbox 360 and PC exclusive is set to release on January 26th. It takes place two years after the first game. Human colonies are beginning to vanish mysteriously. Uncharted worlds have more to explore. There is a new type of villain, the incest like Collectors. They are believed to be working for the Reapers. For players who have saved game data from the first Mass Effect, you can transfer the save file into Mass Effect 2. I'm looking forward to this feature as it tailors the game to what you did in the original. The combat system and AI are improved and there is a new regenerating health system. It is rated M for Mature and will retail for around $59.99.

Early 2010 video game: BioShock 2
On February 9th, fans will once again journey into the underwater city of Rapture. Set 10 years after the events of the original game, Rapture is now headed by Sophia Lamb, a rival of Andrew Ryan, and the terrible Big Sisters. Playing as a prototype Big Daddy, you can duel-wield a drill and plasmids. For the first time, players can explore the ocean floor and collect items there. Returning features include Vita-Chambers and audio diaries. The option to harvest the Little Sisters is still available, although you can choose to adopt them. BioShock 2 also has a new multiplayer feature where you can play as the citizens of Rapture online. It is rated M and will retail for about $59.99.

Early 2010 video game: Dante's Inferno
Also releasing on February 9th is the new title, based on the Divine Comedy. Play as Dante and go through the nine Circles of Hell as you try to get the soul of Dante's lover back from Lucifer. As a primary weapon, Dante uses Death's scythe. Game play features beast taming where you can control beasts demons ride. Another feature is the ability to absolve or condemn the souls of Dante's enemies. How the player handles this will determine what weapon or power grows stronger. Dante's Inferno will be available for the PS3 and Xbox360. It's rated M and will retail for about $59.99.

There are many other video games that are set for an early 2010 release. I will be previewing more during the month of December. If you have a video game gift card you're itching to spend, just wait until 2010.
