Early 2010 Video Game Releases - Part 2

More Games Worth Waiting For

Jennifer Amlie
This is the second installment of Early 2010 Video Game Releases. The Christmas season is usually when the year's most anticipated games are released, but the first quarter of 2010 is brimming with promising games. Be patient if you receive a gift card for the holidays, you may want to wait for these games.

Early 2010 video game: Heavy Rain
It's been a few years since this game was first announced. Now there is a good chance it will be released in the middle of February. Heavy Rain is a dark, film style game where your character is trying to solve seemingly random murders. It focuses on four playable characters. If the character you're playing dies, the game does not just start from the last save point. The story goes on with you as a different character. Everything you do or do not do alters the game. When all four characters die, the story comes to a conclusion and the game ends. The rating is currently pending, but I think it will be M for Mature. It is a PS3 exclusive and will retail for $59.99.

Early 2010 video game: God of War III
The final installment of the God of War series will be released on March 31st. Gamers will once again play as Kratos as he seeks vengeance on the gods of Greek mythology. God of War III starts off right after the end of the second game. Kratos is shown in a demo with the Golden Fleece and Icarus' wings. He has kept both of these from his battles in the previous game. Also in a demo, Kratos is shown holding the head of Helios. This can be used as a way to distract soldiers or as a lantern. The game is set to feature new and returning combo attacks and more secondary weapons. It's a PS3 exclusive and is rated M. It will retail for $59.99.

Early 2010 video game: Gran Turismo 5
GT5 is expected on February 2nd. This is the first game in the racing series that will feature damage to the cars and the World Rally Championship and NASCAR brands. If you have the PSP GT game, you have the ability to import all of your unlocked cars and upgrades to the PS3 game. There are supposed to be almost 1,000 cars, 20 locations, and 70 track variations in the game. Its rating is pending and will retail around $59.99. It is a PS3 exclusive.

Early 2010 video game: Final Fantasy XIII
The biggest RPG series is back with a March 9th release date. The story revolves around two worlds, Cocoon and Pulse. In those worlds, beings known as the fal'Cie are created from a crystal inside them. If they are chosen for a greatest purpose and fail to fulfill it, they become monsters. Members in your FFXIII party are dealing with this curse. There is a new battle option called the Paradigm Shift that lets the player switch the party members' roles while in battle. The summon creatures Eidolons are returning with new additions. Characters leveling up gain CP after battles that can be spent to unlock new abilities. It will be available for the Xbox360 and PS3. It will retail for $59.99 and is rated T.

You can read the first installment of this article here. The first quarter of 2010 is full of even more video game releases. I will be featuring other games through out the month of December. As this year comes to an end, information about more first quarter 2010 games should become available.
