1) Edgewood Plantation James River Plantations: Lizzie
The haunting of this place possibly can be traced back to the fact that this antebellum southern plantation was used as a Civil War hospital. Rumor has it that a ghost by the name of Lizzie is the resident ghost. She makes noises, has been heard walking up the stairs, and has been visible in windows. She is supposedly still waiting for the love of her life to come back from that Civil War. It is also believed that some of the soldiers of the Civil War haunt this place quite often.
2) Frederickson and Spotsylvania National Military Park, Frederickson: The Dead
This national park encompasses four important battles: Battle of the Wilderness, Battle of Chancellorville, Battle of Spotsylvania, and the Battle of Frederickson. Ghostly images on camera, sounds, the feeling of great pain and sadness, and the appearance of Civil War ghosts are a few of the many sensations when entering this park. The intense nature of all these phenomenons have earned this military park a spot on many of the top five most haunted battlefields of America lists and has earned it one of the spots on our top five most haunted hot spots of the state of Virginia.
3) Major Grahm's Mansion, Graham's Forge: An Abusive Slave Owner
This Plantation was said to be owned by a slave owner who was described as cruel and abusive with his slaves. The general feeling within this house is of pain and anger. Common occurrences are of the electricity pulsing on and off, curtains moving, and someone moving up and downstairs. Down in the basement where slaves were supposedly tortured, there is a pair of bloody hand prints that will appear on different occasions. For some reason, if you stay there for a long period of time you will hear yelling, babies crying, and yelling. The strangest sensation is that people feel as if they take a little of the house with them. From the outside you can see people walking up stairs in the attic, lights splitting in the air, going on and off within the house. It is a strange sight to see. EVPS, sounds and images produced by Virginia Tech have led to evidence that the place is indeed haunted.
2) Old House Woods, Mathews:Treasure Protected
This place has been haunted for over two hundred years and the most amazing variety of paranormal phenomenon has been reported here. From pirates burying gold, ghost ships hovering over the woods, British soldiers from the 1700s burying treasure, skeletons in knights' armor brandishing swords, galleons appearing and disappearing, headless dogs, people shoveling quite furiously, green lights, and horses appearing have all been reported. All of these things have been reported throughout the year on numerous occasions. There used to be a house in the center of this wood for which the woods were named, but it burnt to the ground a great many years ago. When you see the green balls of light, it is said to be your warning to leave. Some have not and have reported attacks on their vehicles. Many have searched for the treasure and never returned.
1) The Cavalier Hotel, Virginia Beach: Old Hollywood Glamor
The least psychic of guests have described towels changing colors, elevators running by themselves, and toilets flushing on their own. The eerie nature of the place isn't helped by the fact that it resembles the "Overlook Hotel" from the movie "The Shining." Many people stay away from the Pocahantas and Hunt Room. There is a waiter that walks through the walls and a woman walking her dog in these rooms. This place opened in 1927 and has seen many a movie celebrity. Many famous musical guests have played and stayed here. The hotel seems to still feel it, because the piano will play by itself quite often. Adolph Coors of Coors Beer Brewery fell to his death by his own hands. He stayed here often on the 6th floor. The sound of people walking and the cold spots on that floor have been tied to this man. Sometimes guests on the 6th floor will often hear the terrible sound of flesh hitting pavement. Guests often call the front desk complaining of a cat meowing outside their door followed by door scratchings. He belonged to a young guest who died in the swimming pool one night. Finally, there is an African American bellhop on the top of the staircase to the 6th floor that warns guests of ghosts ahead. Too bad he is a ghost himself. When deciding to visit this hotel please remember to look for the old Cavalier Hotel on the hill and not the one on the beach. They are two different hotels and only one is haunted.
Please remember when visiting these places that some are private property and may have trespassing signs. Please respect that and always ask permission before visiting them. Otherwise, happy haunting hunting.

Post a CommentActually, it is the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park, not Frederickson. I have walked miles through the battlefields of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House. Although I have not had a ghostly encounter...yet, I have traipsed through some eerie locations. I recommend the walking tours, not the driving tours, if ghost hunting is your game.
