Early Pregnancy: Helpful Tips

Erin Rivera
The first trimester of pregnancy can be a difficult time no matter how excited a mom to be is upon discovering she is pregnant. Emotions are running high and some women begin to experience fatigue and morning sickness fairly quickly into their pregnancy. Luckily there are a few helpful steps to take in the beginning of pregnancy to make it easier to go through.

One of the most common symptoms of the first trimester is fatigue. Many women claim to feel extremely tired during their first trimester. Naturally, resting and napping when possible is the best solution to the fatigue, changing your diet can also help remedy this problem. It is best to try eating lots of high protein foods or foods with good carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes to ensure you keep your energy levels up to where they should be.

If you find that you experience morning sickness during your first trimester like many moms-to-be do, there are a few different things you can try to help ease this discomfort, The first step is to alter your diet. Instead of three larger meals, try eating several smaller meals and be sure to leave out any foods that are very greasy, fatty or spicy as these will only worsen the morning sickness. Sea bands are also an excellent remedy for morning sickness. These special bracelets have a small ball on them that presses into a certain pressure point that helps to relieve nausea. If you find that you have tried all these methods and are still not able to keep anything down, then talk to your doctor or midwife as they may be able to prescribe you with some medicine to help.

Another problem that many women experience during their first trimester involves them feeling very emotional or even sad. This is especially true for women who may be going through their pregnancy alone or going through hard times. If you are feeling exceptionally sad or overwhelmed look to a source of comfort and support either through your spouse, partner, a good friend or family member or even a support group. It is important to recognize you are not alone and to take care of yourself emotionally as well as physically. Talking your doctor or midwife is also recommended if you suspect that you may be suffering from depression.
