Early Pregnancy and Insomnia

Jim Posey
Sleeping problems can be one of the most frustrating aspects of being pregnant. In a time when your hormones are rushing, your mood is all over the place, and your eating habits are haywire this really is the time when you should be getting to sleep. However, many expectant mothers are reported to having experienced many sleeping problems during their times being pregnant. It is possible, however, by outthinking your body to be able to get some good rest and be pregnant.

Many women have problems sleeping because they have a frequent urge to urinate. Your kidneys are working overtime because you are working with an increased amount of blood. During the pregnancy. What this does is increases the filtering activity of the kidneys which will end up producing more urine. Your growing baby will also put an increasing amount of pressure on the bladder. Obviously, if this is the problem that you struggle with, then you should try to consume most of your water earlier in the day. However, if it is still an issue, set a small timer to wake you up two hours after you go to sleep and use the restroom. This will evacuate your urine stores and leave you ready to sleep the whole night un bothered.

Heartburn is very common during pregnancy and is a big contributor to early pregnancy and insomnia. When you are pregnant your digestive system will slow down. Your food will be left sitting in your stomach for longer periods of time and this will leave you to experiencing both heart burn and constipation. Heart burn will also become worse during pregnancy because of the growing size of the uterus that is pressing against the stomach. Before you go to bed try to take some antacid like Tums or Rolaids. Antacids will help normalize your digestive track. Make sure to talk to your doctor before taking any over the counter heartburn medication like Prilosec or Zantac. Even though these medications are over the county they still might have unwanted effects on the pregnancy.

The biggest contributor to early pregnancy and insomnia is boy aches and pains. Your body is growing through a huge changing process as a new life grows inside of you. It will be very difficult for you to find a comfortable sleeping position as your baby starts to develop inside of your body. Women will sometimes feel leg cramps and back aches during their pregnancy. Pregnant women are recommended to sleep on their left side in order to maximize blood flow to the placenta. There are pillows that are specifically made to contour to a pregnant women's body.
