Earmarks, Pork, and Add-on's

I don't like earmarks. I don't like pork. I don't like add-on's. These items make me feel that our elected officials are cheating and stealing from the voters of this nation. The recent omnibus bill was loaded with over 8500 earmarks. With the declining economy the voters are asked and expected to have some financial responsibility. Our elected leaders should take the lead and show the same kind of responsibility.

Our president during his campaign stated that he would veto any bill that had earmarks. Our president quietly signed the omnibus bill that was loaded with earmarks. I would say that is a violation of his campaign promise. He may say it was last year's business. I say that he just broke his promise and with that signature it is just another indication that Washington is back to politics as usual. Where is that change we can believe in? Sorry, Mr. President you just blew it. You had your chance to uphold your campaign promise. We need a leader, not a follower of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. The lack of experience is starting to rise to the surface.

I am a normal retired person whose income is a small pension, Social Security, capital gains, and dividends from investments. Since inauguration the stock market has crumbled over twenty percent. My discretionary money used to come from dividends and capital gains. This income has evaporated. I have seen my investments in America shrink in half. It is obvious that the Wall Street investors do not have any confidence in the policies coming out of the White House and Congress. Instead of just speaking well, the president also needs to promote confidence in the programs set forth.

The normal Joes of this nation are hurting and suffering because of the declining economy. What are our elected officials doing? They are stuffing every earmark and pork projects into these bills and showing no fiscal responsibility. Do I see our elected officials cutting back on anything? No. I do not see any cutting back. Spend, spend, and spend until a hole is dug so deep that it will be difficult to climb out of the hole. Rampant inflation is just around the corner. Is this a repeat of the Carter years?

I don't want to hear about health care reform or education reform until the economy is fixed. The economy should be the number one priority.

The elected officials are ignoring the fact that the voters elected them to speak for them. They are ignoring the anger building up in the voting public. At the present time party and agenda's trump voters. 2010 and 2012 cannot come soon enough. Elected officials your days may be numbered.
