Earn Cash Through Consignment Shops

Easy Ways to Save Valuable Time and Sell Your Gently Used Items Safely on Consignment

Tony Fisher
A consignment shop is a local business where you can take your gently used clothing, jewelry and furniture and let the consignment shop sell them for you. Usually the consignment shop will set a price for your items and then display them in-store for their customers to browse and buy. Over time the consignment shop owner may adjust and lower the price of the items and, after a predetermined amount of time, if your items don't sell they are returned to you.

Consignment Shops growing in popularity during hard times.

As times get tough more and more people are turning to consignment shops as a safer avenue to sell times in their homes that might otherwise be collecting dust. With so many people hearing of scams on eBay and classified Websites like Craigslist, both buyers and sellers can turn to consignment shops as a safer avenue for any transaction.

As a seller organizing the sale of your household items can be difficult and time consuming. To sell something online you'll need to take photos, write a detailed description, and often have background information on the item. For instance selling a treadmill online seems like a great idea, until you consider the information you will need. Which model is the treadmill? Do you know the strength of the motor? What are the exact list of features included? Has it been well reviewed online and how will the reviews effect your ability to sell it? Also consider, how will you ship the treadmill?

In many cases it is much easier for both the seller and potential buyers to go to a local consignment shop where the entire transaction is handled by the shop owners themselves.

What you need to know about Consignment Shop Selling

Before heading out take inventory of any items that you want to sell at your local consignment shop. Most consignment shops will allow you to sell just about anything, but certain items are of course in higher demand then others. Popular items to sell are jewelry, clothes, furniture, electronics and stereo equipment. You'll only want to consider selling items that are in good condition, for clothes they should be stain free and not be too worn out. Consider if you would buy it yourself if you were a shopper. You can be a little more forgiving with furniture, and other household items.

The next step is to go out and find the local shops themselves. The phonebook is a good place to start, but you'll save time by using a search engine such as Google, Yahoo or MSN. In the phone book you can find information under second hand or consignment. Take down the information, make a short list of stores nearby and then your ready to make your rounds by calling the stores. Find out what types of items are in demand and ask them about their consignment policies. Afterwards head out and check the stores in person.

You'll want to get a clear idea of their consignment policies, how they handle pricing and how long they will hold your items for sale. Be sure to keep a record of everything you decide to bring to the consignment shop, and any terms and pricing associated with the items you have them sell.

In today's economy consignment shops are a win win scenario for both buyers and sellers. As someone looking to clear out the dust and put a little money in your pocket, you may find that your local consignment shop is a great way to save your valuable time and bring in extra money .
