Earn Extra Christmas Cash

It's that time of year again! The holidays are fast approaching, and money starts becoming tighter. A part-time job might be just the thing to help out this coming season.

Employers add thousands of jobs in the last three months of the year. Sales increase in stores, hours of operation increase, and more employees are needed. Plus, many regular employees are taking time off for the holidays, putting even more available time out there.

If you're looking for a seasonal job, the experts say look at both retail and beyond. It's not just Wal-Mart and the local malls selling gifts that need help during the holiday rush. Local restaurants may need extra servers, bussers, cooks, dishwashers, and bartenders to cover the surge in holiday parties. Caterers are also a good place to find work, as their business is bound to increase for the season. UPS is a good place to look for a job-they supposedly bring on thousands of seasonal workers to fill many positions. Truck drivers, office workers, store workers, and more will be needed to deliver the millions of packages that go out from Thanksgiving to New Years, and especially for Christmas. A temporary office job can be a real good idea for students who are off for holiday break, as it will give them a taste of the real world and give the office who hires them some extra help. Grocery stores always need more people, as the amount of holiday food shopping increases dramatically. Telemarketing for a company that takes orders for merchandise, whether by catalog or TV, is also a great idea, as the holidays bring a huge increase in TV and mail-order purchases.

When looking for a seasonal job, start as early as possible. Alot of employers try to get their new employees in as early as September so they become familiar with their products in time for the holiday rush. UPS hires more in October and early November. You'll also want to start early for holiday money as there is generally a waiting period for that first paycheck. If you are looking for a job in any kind of retail, make sure you know a bit about the store. You'll want to be as knowledgeable as possible about what you will be selling, and your potential employer will appreciate the interest you are showing.

Above all, look for a job that genuinely interests you. It will make your holidays alot better when you enjoy going to work every day. And you never know, your part-time seasonal job just may turn into a full-time, all year round job!
