For teenagers, there are fewer options for earning summer cash than there are available to adults but that does not mean there are not many great money making opportunities for adolescents. For junior high school and high school students, one of the best ways to earn money is caddying at a golf course. Caddies get fresh air, exercise, knowledge about the game of golf and great tips. A good caddy can often earn anywhere from $20 to $100 on a typical summer day. For teens, 15 and over (the standard minimum working age on the books in most states) there are many seasonal jobs that offer a decent income. In beach towns there is always work as a lifeguard at local beaches and swimming pools. In addition, many fast food shops, ice cream parlors and drive-in movie theaters offer steady summer employment. One of the most common summer job ideas for older teens is work as a camp counselor at a summer camp. Such jobs offer the opportunity to work with kids as well as other teens while having fun and making money.
For adults there are many lucrative options for summer jobs. There are many different jobs in the service industry that offer good tips and can serve as excellent ancillary income. Valet parking, bar tending or waiting tables at summer resorts is often a good way to earn quick cash. There are also many seasonal jobs that pay well during the summer months. Landscaping, sprinkler installation and pool care are all examples of summer jobs that offer a decent income. School teachers often find alternative means of earning income during the summer months by working within their own field. Often private tutoring companies and test prep organizations are eager to hire certified teacher for these months. Such work can command a decent part time salary to supplement any seasonal unemployment.
Of course many people wish for the ultimate summer job-a job that allows one to be on vacation at the same time. One of the best ways to see the world and work at the same time is as a certified English teacher. Many companies nationwide offer certification in teaching English as a second language or to speakers of other language. Such certification is often all that is necessary in many countries to teach. The best English teaching jobs go to people with prior teaching experience and a college degree but in many countries such as Japan, China or South Korea, you can still land a teaching job that will provide airfare, a furnished apartment free of charge and a decent wage for part-time work. Such opportunities will allow you to see and experience a different culture while still saving money. If you snag a teaching job in European nation, you can have a vacation while earning a steady income at the same time.
