Earning writing stars on Helium requires you to understand some things about the Helium format. Helium isn't, for the most part, a personal blog. Instead it's a source of information. For most categories on Helium you shouldn't write in the first person point of view. You are presenting information and data and even opinions which are usually not presented in first person accounts. There are several categories on Helium, such as the creative writing category, that do allow for more individuality of expression.
One of the important components of earning writing stars on Helium is writing well. If you want to earn those writing stars, you have to master the language. You have to understand, and use, correct grammar. You have to learn to spell correctly and you have to be able to write in such a way that people enjoy reading you writing. Those things don't necessarily come naturally; however, you don't have to be an expert novelist in order to do those things, you just have to master the language. Practice, as well as a good eye for editing are the things that will help you avoid grammatical and spelling errors and those things will help you get your articles rated to the top.
Another factor in earning writing stars on Helium is the number of articles that you write. Currently, you can earn between one and five writing stars depending on the number of articles that you write and the quality of the ratings on those articles. If you have 500 articles on Helium and if articles are consistently rating in the top 25% of their categories you can have up to five writing stars. In contrast, someone just starting out at Helium may not have any writing stars until they have gotten a few articles under their belt and until those articles have been rated toward the top.
Another factor in earning writing stars on Helium is your writing style. To earn writing stars on Helium you have to write in such a way that the people doing the rating can see the quality of your article. A strong opening sentence, for example, is a key to earning writing stars on Helium. The same is true for writing a strong closing sentence. Having a logical flow to your article and making a rational argument in your article will also help you to earn writing stars on Helium.
In the end, earning writing stars on Helium is somewhat individualized. Not everybody will be able to earn writing stars on Helium, but most people will find that after some practice and publishing a certain number of articles they are very likely to earn writing stars on Helium.
