Earth Day 2009 Celebrations in Connecticut

Gaylord Nelson was the founder of Earth Day and his idea evolved over seven years, beginning in 1962 before it was finally recognized. Earth Day was first celebrated in the spring of 1970. Earth Day is on April 22 and the state of Connecticut has a variety of activities to celebrate.

Earth Day Celebration at the Smart Living Center

Help plant seeds for energy efficiency. Enjoy a presentation by the Rainforest Reptiles, workshops given by Little Scientists, a scavenger hunt, mini seminars, and plant sales. Scouts can earn an Earth Day patch for attending! Hands on activities for all ages to enjoy.

Party for the Planet
When: Saturday April 18 and Sunday April 19
Time: 12pm-3pm (both days)
Where: Beardsley Zoo

Celebrate Earth Day at the Beardsley Zoo! Promoting local, organic, earth-friendly choices as a way of living a healthier life for ourselves and the planet. Environmentally friendly vendors with anything from green cleaning products, recycled fashion accessories, and better lawn care for you and the surrounding wildlife.

Sunday 1:00 "Environmental Hootenanny" with musical performers Tom Callihan and Ann Shapiro.

Fairfield's Earth Day
When: May 9
Time: 9:30am-3:00pm
Where: Fairfield Warde High School

Over 90 exhibitors! Get Home Depot coupons for water saving plants and shrubs. Kids can make a planter and fill it with Mother's Day Flowers. Enter raffles! Hear from Clean Energy Representatives about environmental iniatives and policies. Recycle your electronics for free at the CRRA collection!
