Earth Day 2010 falls on Thursday, April 22. Celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year, Earth Day was founded by Wisconsin's US Senator Gaylord Nelson back in 1970 in the hopes of raising awareness of environmental issues amongst US politicians. Earth Day 2010, which went global in 1971, is expected to attract one billion participants from 190 countries around the world.

For this year's Earth Day celebration Cheltenham Township has planned an Earth Day Festival and several clean-up projects to raise awareness of environmental issues amongst residents.

Cheltenham's Earth Day Festival has been set from noon to 3 pm, Saturday, April 24th at the Myers Elementary School, located at 7609 Montgomery Avenue in Elkins Park.. The festival will include live music, crafts and kids activities, student exhibits and green product demos. Tours will also be given of the new Leed-certified school.
