Earth Day, Appreciation and Awareness for Our Planet

All About Earth Day

Matt
The Earth is our planet, it is our home. Just like you would take care of your house and keep it clean for your family we need to do the same for our planet. If you want to show our home planet some more love and appreciation, Earth Day is a great opportunity to do so.

What is Earth Day? Earth Day is a celebration of our home planet Earth, loving it, keeping it clean and helping it thrive. It is a day to show our appreciation and love for our home as well as awareness for our environment around us. It is celebrated by approximately 175 countries. This day is considered a worldwide environmental degradation and hope of support in an environmental agenda.

So where and how was Earth Day started? Earth Day was created by peace activist John McConnel and in the 1970's by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson (from Wisconsin) passed a bill for this day. He proposed the bill to nationally celebrate Earth Day on April 22. This day is coordinated by Earth Day Network.

When is Earth Day? The month of April or March depending on where you live. It is traditionally celebrated on the first day of spring, which is generally around March 20th. In the Northern Hemisphere it is celebrated in the spring, but celebrated in the autumn in the Southern Hemisphere.

What can I do on Earth Day to help the planet? There are many things you can do to participate on Earth Day, there are even small things you can do through the whole year to contribute to helping our planet.

Of course there are the three R's, reduce, reuse and recycle.

Recycling is a pretty simple planet saving task and you can make money from it as well as benefitting the good of the planet. Many recycling facilities in your area will buy your recyclables.

Instead of purchasing bottles of water, try purchasing a reusable water bottle and simply drink tap water. This will not only prevent hundreds of bottles of plastic going into a landfill, but will also save you a chunk of cash in the long run.

Change the lightbulbs in your home to energy efficient ones. This will save energy and money. You can't lose from doing these things.

If you are planning to build a home or remodel your home try looking into economical and environmentally friendly materials, like bamboo flooring instead of endangered hardwoods.

Earth Day supports reducing the use of electric, water and gasoline. In other words, don't leave lights on when you're not in the room, unplug appliances that are not being used, don't leave the water running when brushing your teeth, and don't leave your car running when you're not driving.

Doing these things will make our planet a better place and save you money. So, celebrate Earth Day and do the little things to make our planet a better place and keep it healthy.
