CRecycle Eco-Arts Fest 2010 - April 17, 2010
Taking place the weekend before Earth Day, the CRecycle Eco-Arts Fest 2010 features educational programs, juried recycled art show, trash fashion exhibit, green products and services, ceramic center previews and more. There are indoor and outdoor events located throughout the creative New Bohemia/Czech Village district in Cedar Rapids. Most events take place from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is free. The Recycled Ball - Earth Day Celebration - April 17, 2010
The CRecycle Eco-Arts Fest ends with The Recycled Ball - Earth Day Celebration featuring the Polkaholics at the 3rd Street Saloon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from 8 pm to 11 pm. Attendees are encouraged to wear recycled fashion and accessories to the ball with prizes awarded for Best Recycled Retro Fashion, Best Trash Fashion made from disposable materials and Best Earth Day 40th Anniversary Tribute Fashion accessory. There is a $10 cover charge for this Earth Day event.
Earth Day Guided Hikes - Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Center
Get out and enjoy the outdoors on Earth Day at this Eastern Iowa park located just north of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Participants can enjoy a free 45 minute guided hike. Guided hikes are offered at 2 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm and 5 pm. In the evening, individuals are invited to attend a special outdoor Native American pipe ceremony to celebrate Earth Day. The evening event costs $5 per family or $2.50 per adult and $1 per child aged 16 and under. The Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Center is located at 10260 Morris Hill Road in Toddville, Iowa.
1st Annual Corridor Earth Day Celebration - April 24, 2010
This family-friendly Eastern Iowa Earth Day event is hosted by the Corridor Conservation Coalition and the Corridor Earth Day Project, a group dedicated to making everyday Earth Day in the Corridor between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. This Earth Day event will feature speakers, demonstrations, live music and activities for adults and children. Eastern Iowans can learn about rain barrels, view rain gardens, visit Green vendors and more. The Earth Day event takes place indoors at the Teamsters Hall, 5000 J Street S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404 from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is free and the first 100 attendees receive a free reusable bag.
Recycled Fashion Workshops
There are a variety of Earth Day themed workshops taking place throughout the month of April at The Shop Next Door located at 111 13th Street SE in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Workshop participants can learn how to create a dress out of plastic bags, transform outdated and worn out clothing, and reinvent an old T-shirt. Workshops vary in cost from $5 to $15 per person. Recycle in Style II Fused Fashion Design Challenge - April 24, 2010
Fans of "Project Runway" will love this fashion-focused Earth Day event in Cedar Rapids. The fashion show will premier recycled fashions created at The Shop Next Door workshops along with dance performances by the Movmnt Dance Company. The show takes place at 6 pm at the Movmnt Dance Company located at 709 Second Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Admission is free.
