Earth Day, Earth Hour

Zorlone
I

Darkness fell upon us,

yet only for an hour.

Voluntarily, obligingly

all races near and far.

II

In one year we spend a day,

to recognize your love.

As if to tease your humility,

we humans walk in a strut.

III

We have drained you of your beauty

we have stolen and left you in agony.

The snowcaps are melting,

they are vanishing quickly.

IV

Why did we let it become like this?

The heavens cry out thunder and lightning.

The earth weeps blood and rain,

we are opportunistic, we're vain.

V

You asked for nothing

but to spare you for our next generations.

It is for selfish reasons,

that we indulge in this jubilation.

VI

The lights were off ,

skies were lit by stars.

It is Earth Day,

sadly it only lasted for an hour.

If only they would have stopped cars and planes and made everything still. I think if people were to remember what still is they might understand how important a little time out is for everyone including Mother Earth or as I like to call her, Maude.
