Earth Day Energy Festival to Be Held in Joplin, MO

Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center will be hosting an Earth Day Energy Festival on April 24th. Citizens of Joplin and surrounding areas are encouraged to come help out and learn about alternative green energy sources. Local businesses will have booths with information on how they have turned their industry into an energy efficient business. You can also buy locally grown items from local farmers' markets. A raffle will be held and one lucky winner will get a free Neuton battery-powered electric lawn mower. A city-wide park cleanup will take place, and you can participate in games and win prizes. There will also be a free tree giveaway sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

List of activities and times:
Empire District Electric Company's Kids for Kilowatts (10:30-11:00)- Kids for Kilowatts will teach your children smart energy usage that is both effective and easy to understand.
Going Green, Saving Green (11:00-11:30 and 2:00-2:30)- Come out and learn how The Audubon Center has implemented its own energy efficient technologies. This is a fun and interactive tour, during which you can learn ways to reduce your carbon footprint in your own home.
Energy Olympics (12:30-1:00)- Compete in the Energy Olympics and win great prizes, including solar-cooked food!

Come on out on April 24th to help Audubon celebrate Earth Day, and bring the whole family! Activities and events are completely free to every one of all ages, and will be held at Wildcat Park.
The Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center, located in Wildcat Park, Joplin, Missouri, is adjacent to some of the last remaining chert glades, a globally unique habitat found only in this area and the biologically rich Shoal Creek an important place for migratory birds and other wildlife.
The Audubon Center is a partnership project of Audubon Missouri, the City of Joplin and the Missouri Department of Conservation. Opened in 2007, the Center itself is a celebration of nature. Innovative "green" technologies create a truly distinctive building in keeping with their mission of appreciating, conserving and understanding our natural world. The local Missouri Department of Conservation offices are also located on site.
