Earth Day is officially April 22nd, but there are plenty of celebrations around the Houston area throughout April. Below is all of the info you'll need to celebrate Earth Day and learn about how to save our planet!

April 9 - Houston Arboretum and Nature Center - 4501 Woodway Drive
The HANC's Get Outside For Earth Day is from 10am - 4pm. The free event includes a nature hike, animal activity stations for the kids, campsite demos and information from REI, and a native plant sale. Freebird's and other food and drink will be available to purchase, so be sure to bring some cash. For more information and directions, visit houstonarboretum.org.

April 16 & 17 - Waste Management Earth Day 2011 - Houston Zoo, 6200 Hermann Park Drive
From 9am - 3pm, your Houston Zoo admission will include all the Earth Day festivities - Houston Zoo members even get in free! Don't miss the Mother Earth Maze or the Swap Shop, where you can barter with your natural treasures - in addition to crafts, music, special eco-themed Meet the Keeper Talks, and more! Parking at the Houston Zoo can be a real bear, so be sure to click here before you head out! Visit houstonzoo.org for more event details.

April 23 - Earth Day Houston Festival - Discovery Green, 1500 McKinney Street
This event, in its third year, will be full of activities for the whole family designed to make learning about saving the Earth fun. Check out the H-E-B Kids Energy Zone and Stage for fun and music for the kids, including a splash zone for overheated kids of all ages. Adults can learn about new green products, businesses, and services at the Green Expo, and the whole family can pick something green out at the Urban Harvest Farmers Market. Click here for event information from earthdayhouston.org and here for directions and parking around Discovery Green.

Even if you can't make it out to an Earth Day event this year, you can still learn about and contribute to the cause of environmental education and conservation by visiting the Earth Day Network, earthday.org. To learn more about The City of Houston's green programs, visit greenhoustontx.gov. There you can find information about recycling programs, green city initiatives and events, as well as tips, tricks, and information about what you can do at home and work to save energy and reduce waste.

Remember - treat every day like it's Earth Day!
