Earth Day is April 22nd and this year will be the 40th Anniversary this vibrant holiday is observed. If you're looking for fun events in Dallas, Texas to celebrate Earth Day, check out these local events that will help you celebrate the world around us as well as learn about sustainable, greening practices.

1. Live Green Expo
Saturday, April 17th, 9AM-7PM

The Live Green Expo in Plano is a fun family event entirely free to the public. Come learn from various businesses and non-profits about how to green your life like recycling, making your own compost, rainwater harvesting techniques, taking advantage of public transportation and so much more. This year's keynote speaker will be Joel Salatin, the charming, enlightened farmer featured in Food, Inc. They will also be conducting a donated shoe drive that will be distributed to the Haiti Earthquake survivors.

2. Oak Cliff Earth Day
Sunday, April 18th, 12 noon-5PM

Come join in on the Earth Day festivities in Oak Cliff for free fun filled day of eco-friendly awareness. There will be various vendors and non-profits educating the masses on how to reduce your carbon footprint. Also, taste samples from local restaurants that promote vegan, organic, and all-natural foods.

Some of the free, fun events at this Earth Day celebration include a film premier of "A Chemical Reaction" at the Angelika Film Center, a farmers market highlighting local and organic produce, live demonstrations of water preservation and other sustainability techniques, and a cocktail party hosted by Pure Dental.

4. Earthfest
Thursday, April 22nd, 10AM-2PM
Downtown Dallas, Pegasus Plaza and AT&T Plaza

This is a free street festival hosted by the City of Dallas. Each year numerous businesses and vendors set up booths in Pegasus and AT&T Plaza to educate the public about how they can help our environment and live in a sustainable way. Local vendors offer samples of organic and all-natural goods. There is also a stage for performances and speeches on environmental practices. There is even a fashion show of clothes made from recycled materials. Last year, there was a dress made entirely of Target shopping bags! Volunteers also participate in various community service activities like mulching, planting, and picking up trash around Downtown.
